Armarium

created  as
my journeymanspiece

as part of
completing my joinery apprenticeship

To successfully complete my joinery apprenticeship, I had to design and build a piece of furniture. I decided to build a bookshelf according to my own specifications.

This shelf was born out of my curiosity for non-horizontal designs, even though this made the building process much harder. I loved the idea of letting the form speak for itself and then trying to build it within 80 working hours.

This project really challenged all my skills in the craft and pushed me to my limits. Upon completion, I was extremely happy that I had taken this path and had learnt a great deal about the importance of proper preparation and going through every step at least once beforehand.

first drafts and the scale of my idea
All the step had to be done by myself, from milling to finishing the surface.
